Hybrid Tea - Ruby red
MONSTROUS buds & HUMUNGOUS blossoms of rich ruby red hold their durable brilliance from beginning to end. IMMENSE petals (just one can cover a child’s palm) lend a classical Hybrid Tea bud shape, slowly spiraling open to a ruffled WHOPPER of a show-stopper. LARGE lettuce-like leaves of an unusual reddened green color gracefully enrobe the long cutting stems – in perfect proportion to the flower. Who needs a bouquet??? It only takes one PRODIGIOUS posy to fill a vase.
Oprah Winfrey was involved in the multi-year evaluation and final selection of the 'Legends' rose. Chosen to pay tribute to the wonderful women honored during Oprah's Legends Weekend.
Like Oprah herself, the rose itself does not stand that tall. Yet its presence cannot be missed. - Lydia Plunk garden writer
In the May issue of O, Winfrey writes that she chose this rose for its "brilliance and bodaciousness, just like the Legends." She also notes that the carmine-red flower is the "exact color of the dress I wore to the Legends Ball."
Throughout Oprah's home, there is a strong sense of presiding spirits—this tree, her grandmother, the women honored by her Legends Rose—all of whom seem to live here companionably with Oprah. Their lesson: We can use our homes to honor what we love. We all have room for that. - Janet Sternburg writer
